Angel One (SmartAPI) — How to Get Your API Key and Secret
Before you can use SmartAPI, you need to create an app on Angel One's developer portal
and obtain an API Key and API Secret. This guide covers
only that — getting your credentials. It stops there.
Before You Start
- An Angel One account — Angel One's documentation states SmartAPI is available to both existing customers and guest users
- Your Angel One Client ID (needed when you create the app)
Unlike some other brokers, Angel One's documentation does not describe a separate paid subscription for API access — SmartAPI is offered free.
Step 1: Log in to the SmartAPI developer portal
Go to smartapi.angelbroking.com and log in, or sign up if you're new.

Highlight the login form and the sign-up link for first-time developers.
Step 2: Create a new app
Click "Create an App". Select which API type you need (Publisher, Trading, Market Feed,
or Historical Data), then provide an app name, a Redirect URL, a Postback URL, and your
Angel One Client ID.

Highlight the API type selector and the app name / redirect URL / Client ID fields.
Step 3: Save and copy your API Key and API Secret
Once saved, the API Key is generated immediately. Open the App Dashboard to find your
new app, then copy the API Key and API Secret shown there.

Mask the actual key/secret values before sharing this screenshot with anyone —
use dummy values if illustrating this step.
What You Should Have Now
- API Key — generated when you create the app
- API Secret — shown alongside the API Key on the App Dashboard
Angel One's documentation separately describes a daily login/session flow (similar in
spirit to other brokers' request-token exchanges) needed before the API can actually place
trades. That daily flow is outside the scope of this guide.
Important Limitations
- Rate limits and session/token expiry details are not covered in the pages reviewed for this guide — check Angel One's SmartAPI documentation directly for current figures.
- The Redirect URL and Postback URL you register must match what your integration actually uses, per Angel One's app-creation form.
🔒 Security warning: Keep your API Secret confidential. Never share it
publicly. Never include real credentials in screenshots — use dummy values or mask them.
